While the following review may be critical, I have to say I love this woman! I saw her in an interview and was very interested in reading her book. She’s still very new to all of this. I should give this book a poor review. But, alas, I just can’t. Much can be forgiven for her youth and fervor. She is convinced she’s the only one out there with this gift. Or handling this sort of work. Things would be significantly better for her if she’d research. There’s an entire branch of Catholicism called Charismatic Renewal doing just what she’s doing. There are special masses for healing. Many faiths are involved in healing and deliverance. I would dearly love to tell her to find a Byzantine Catholic church to recharge her batteries in.She is 38, yet the book reads like it was written by a pre-teen. It’s repetitive, and often contradictory. I don’t think she’s lying. People like us have to interpret messages, which seems to make us very creative people. If you’re looking for something intelligent and articulate, pass on this book. If you need bubblegum for the brain, enjoy! If you’re gifted and feel like you’re the only one, buy this book. It’s humorous and uplifting. You are NOT alone! Then hit the library. She calls herself a non-denominational exorcist. What she’s doing is not exorcism. She’s not working with demons. Like so many others trying to make a name for themselves in the field of paranormal, she probably grabbed on to the term “exorcist” for its mystique. She is working with lesser malignant entities, but nothing demonic. In order to be non-denominational – you have to have a faith foundation. She has none. Her lack of knowledge about genuine exorcism has left her highly critical of Catholic priests. Straight up ignorance on her part. Not all priests have an exorcist’s knowledge of demons and/or demonic activities. They gather information in order to refer a person to a trained exorcist. I read her criticisms and just wanted to hug her. Honey let me help…Due to our shaky moral ground, the need for exorcism is on the rise. Back in the 90s, Pope John Paul II demanded that each diocese have an exorcist. The Church even went so far as to launch “exorcism school, which now has a waiting list.” But it’s a long slow climb. In 1998, America had 9 exorcists. By 2015 we had nearly 300. But that’s still not enough. While it’s generally true that priests do not see the disincarnate, I personally know 3 Catholic exorcists and one ordained non-denominational exorcist who use laity with the gift of discernment of spirits. As I said, she’s far from the only one.All that being said, she is the genuine article. She is without a doubt an “eclectic healer.” An eclectic uses the trappings of many faiths or traditions to a singular end.Her belief that she “destroys” these entities is also ignorant. Dangerously ignorant. Science dictates that energy cannot be destroyed. Spirit is energy. Unless you understand how to send these entities back to their origin, or teach a person how to protect themselves, attachments can and do return. Very often with “friends.”She speaks of higher beings coming to assist her, such as Buddha, Mohammed, and Jesus. Here I get red flags. She describes Buddha as a fat jolly fellow. It’s a common America misconception that Buddha is a deity worshipped by Buddhists. The goal of Buddhism is to attain enlightenment (buddhahood) and thereby break the cycle of reincarnation (karma). There are many who attained buddhahood. The most well-known being Siddhartha. Based on her description, the spirit she refers to walked this earth as a monk named Bo Dai. He lived a life similar to Francis of Assisi. He is not a deity. As Francis of Assisi is beloved of all Christians, Bo Dai is beloved by Buddhists, thus depicted often in statuary. Mohammed is not divine. Muslims do not worship him. He’s just a man who founded a religion. Like George Fox who founded the Society of Friends (aka Quakers). We must test the spirit. Always.Jesus is divine. Jesus is a “higher being.” She contradicts herself about him several times. Do I believe Jesus appears to her? I most certainly do! God does not reserve his assistance for Christians. It breaks my heart that so many believe it so.She states she’s never encountered Satan. Satan is not a name. Lucifer isn’t his name either. It means “light bringer,” described as the most beautiful of God’s archangels. I know his true name. If she were actually dealing with demons, she’d know it too. I’m sure he’s appeared to her in some form, and fooled her.Lilith is not a Hebrew goddess, as described in this book. There is a lot of misinformation on the net about Lilith. Most stemming from a satire, not historical text. Actual Hebrew text dictates “lilit” as a night creature. Other ancient texts (Babylonian, Sumerian, Assyrian) dictate that the lilitu are a class of lesser demons. Some creature appears to her in a familiar guise. We must test the spirit. There is truth to what she says about the core. It is where the divine resides within us. The place where malignant entities seek to attach and feed. This is where she works her healing. She needs to familiarize herself with other ways healing occurs in the core. For instance some years the Julian and Gregorian calendars align and Holy Week happens for more than 2 billion people at the same time. With all those people in prayer and supplication for an entire week - spontaneous deliverance and healing is abundant. Prime time for her to work on The Cecil. She desperately needs to read up on the entities she’s dealing with. There is so much ancient wisdom she can tap into if she’d just pick up a book. She regularly contradicts herself on how she describes these entities. Again, I don’t think she’s lying. I think she’s struggling and interpreting things. She needs to drop the arrogance and study. She laughingly comments about genies stating they don’t exist. They most certainly do. The Disney concept of genies has a foundation in truth. Genie derives from the Arabic word Jinn, an entity slightly lower on the spiritual food chain than angels. They wreak havoc and definitely take up residence in people. She talks about how these things look as well as their age, size and gender. Spirit has no gender, no real form, size is irrelevant and it does not age. Though they may manifest with such an appearance, she needs to know this is just “smoke and mirrors.”It was SO refreshing to read her statement that sage has zero influence on entities. Proof positive she’s the genuine article. My eyeballs hurt from all the times I’ve had to roll them when some fool spouts off about burning sage to chase off negative entities. It works to clear negative “energy.” Not negative entities. There is a difference. It pains me that she has no manner in which to keep these things out of her home. Again, if she’d just pick up a book, find a teacher, or a veteran group. She also misunderstands why they visit her. They aren’t curious about her. They are drawn to her light. She’s not a Sister of the Darkness. She’s a Child of the Light.

I'm completely fascinated by this woman's tale. Unfortunately, the way it's told is ... infuriating. If you're wondering whether to buy this book, here's essentially how it goes:"I was born with a gift. When I was little, I didn't understand it and I was afraid of it. Now it is my destiny to help others. I am the chosen one. I see hundreds of thousands of entities. But more on that later. I had a terrible childhood and my mom didn't love me. Once, in middle school, a girl stopped being my friend. My life is so painful because I am practically a modern-day Mother Theresa. Once, I went to the nurse and noticed another boy was sick, and I felt horrible. See? I'm so selfless it hurts. But I'll get to that point later. I know so many famous people in Hollywood - but I'll thinly veil my bragging my telling you I want to protect the celebs' privacy. I'll get to that later in the book. I'm really special. I've never met anyone as special, selfless, damaged as me. But we'll get to that a little later on."

I'm not sure if I'm the target audience in terms of spirituality and whether I believe in entities, but this book was the closest thing I've read that has made me think twice. It's also incredibly entertaining and R.H. has such a funny way of describing the crazy world that she inhabits. Fun read for everyone!!

Although the claims she makes in this book line up with historical claims of entities you can glean from various world religions and spiritualists, her tone through the entire book is very self-inflated. I do not know why she feels the need to assert over and over again that she is the ONLY ONE in the world who can remove these troublesome entities. At times, I felt as though I was reading a wordy business pitch. Towards the end, she started to sound like a New Age blog, and found myself skimming instead of reading.I suggest buying the kindle version and seeing for yourself. I wouldn't buy a hard copy, if I were you. But that's just me, this could be your cup of tea!

A one-of-a-kind non-religious metaphysical book about a woman who actually destroys demons. I was amazed at what a convincing read it was. Rh Stavis has been able to see "astral entities" since childhood which latch onto humans like parasites. What the demons get out of it is not exactly clear, but apparently the demons feed off emotions, but how emotions could be sustenance is not clear. RH however is very believable in her convictions and gives plenty of extremely specific and very believable details about how she learned to identify and get rid of demons who are attached to people. There were some parallels to Monroe's JOURNEYS OUT OF THE BODY and FAR JOURNEYS regarding the parasitic creatures he described in the astral world. But Stavis' story was completely different and more compelling, since she was learning how to help people with her gifts, while facing the most incredible creatures imaginable. A fascinating, entertaining read which makes you doubt the underpinning of our visible world, and makes you want to experience the strange parallel worlds that Stavis describes.Five stars. Excellent on every level and leaves a yearning in your heart to have a deeper understanding of our reality.

Hey, I don’t believe any of this silliness, but it may be my low frequency 😂. If her clients believe it, and she believes it, it’s a great placebo effect, AND she did get ten of my dollars. She’s smart.

What I really appreciate about Rachel is that she doesn't charge people money for them to use her gifts. A true healer and enlightened soul. Thank you for helping to rid our planet of negativity!

I accidentally purchased this book not knowing there was a basics book that came first. Even though that is the case, I was expecting textbook-like explanations to accounting that I distinctly remember from my classes. It's a nice feeling when someone realizes they need to explain the basics to you, yet they are willing to backtrack to wherever the starting point may be. I still struggle with the CPA terminology and basics, but I would rather read small, casual books than learn from a class or official textbook. Learning accounting outside of school has been much more interesting.

AAA+++++

I like how this book gave you the basics of accounting in a easy to understand manner. It went a little further in detail all the while keeping to the point. This book made accounting basics easy to understand for me. A must read for those who are hesitant to jump in to financials and also want to learn more about accounting in their own business. The book includes a lot of examples and bonus chapters. I'm glad I bought it and consider this book an asset. Totally recommend it.

Very well written. Simple and to the point in the language the average person can understand with clear and concise examples.

Very Good. Get it. You won't be disappointed.

It's all about training as a Medical Examiner at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Well worth the time spent reading the book. Plenty of science with a counterpoint of being strongly emotion-provoking. This is not a book for the faint of heart or those with no stomach for gritty reality. I found the book to be a sort of emotional roller coaster, sometimes choking back tears at the deaths of the most innocent victims.I find some faults with the book:(1) It has no index, so when a technical term is reused chapters later, readers without the advantage of a photographic memory may find it difficult to locate the term's explanation in the text;(2) There are no references to the storied history of the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner; The transformation of death investigation from a crude political and often corrupt trade into a scientific discipline began there in New York City with Dr Charles Norris in 1917.Readers that find Working Stiff compelling are bound to be equally engaged with The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York by Deborah Blum. This later book has also been made into an installment of the PBS TV series, The American Experience: The Poisoner's Handbook. The episode is particularly well done and worth viewing by those that liked Working Stiff. TPHB is not as scientifically/technically rigorous as it could be, so think of it as a history book, not a scientific treatise.

I'm in a very peripherally-related medical field (meaning I have rudimentary knowledge of most of what she talks about) and, like the author, am fascinated by the human body and how it works. So, reads like these are really interesting for me. She, like my favorite science writer Mary Roach, has a droll wit and an easy-to-follow storytelling voice. (She doesn't jump around a lot and you can always follow what's happening.) There's nothing much to say beyond her writing is lovely (a rarity these days and the lack of good grammar, syntax, punctuation, etc. often times causes me to abandon a book partway through) and she's funny. If you're browsing this book, the subject matter obviously intrigues you, so I can say to go for this. It's an easy/fast read (I read this over a 2-day camping trip) that can be easily put down/picked back up wherever you leave off. (In my case, this was perfect because being distracted by a rambunctious Husky who only rests for 10 minutes at a time doesn't allow for you to sit down and read something like "War and Peace.")Even if you don't have any background knowledge of the human body, it's written clearly and often reiterates the same thing 2 or 3 times, each more layman than the last. While I find this a little distracting (I don't want something explained multiple times), books, TV, movies do this all the time so I know it's for the masses who may like a clearer, less-technical explanation. I can't fault a writer for that. It's great and I already know 2 people to whom I'm going to loan this - a highly-recommended read.

I love medical stuff - nonfiction preferred - and this is are really good one. Dr. Melinek takes the reader through making her decision to go into pathology after after a grueling and almost career-ending stint as a general surgeon. I for one am glad she did because this book is the story of her training at the medical examiner's office in New York City, learning how to determine and document the manner and mode of 262 human deaths. Additionally, she was in New York and involved in her training on September 11, 2001 and became part of the enormous team of doctors recruited to examine, identify, and document the human remains of that tragedy.I thoroughly enjoyed this book - basically couldn't put it down, and kudos also to Dr. Melinek's husband, T.J., who co-authored it with her.

Literally...the most fascinating book I have ever read. She takes you, in a gentle way, through the work of a medical examiner conducting autopsies after a huge variety of causes of death. It is as though you are in the room for the autopsies...without the smells! You hear the stories of what happened to people prior to them ending up in the New York City ME's office. I could not get to the next page fast enough. The most touching part of the book was a total surprise to me...the traumatic, noble, and tireless work of being a medical examiner for the 9/11 terror incident in NYC. I let my friend borrow this book - she finished it and before she even got it back to me had searched for more work by Melinek. I hope she writes more books!

This book describes Judy Melinek's two-year ordeal as a New York City chief medical examiner. Although I am a medical professional who deals with many gory bodies and scenes, I sometimes found Judy Melinek's self-described trials and tribulations as a medical examiner hard to read. Therefore, my squeamish stomach serves as a testament to Ms. Melinek's strong writing ability. Stimulating the reader's five senses, the author allows the reader to personally experience and understand a medical examiner's professional and ethical duties. In addition, her candid stories disprove the stereotypically derived cold personality associated with a medical examiner. She describes many instances in which a medical examiner's compassion, meticulousness, and diligence allow detectives to ring the bells of justice and ultimately, bring peace or closure to the dead victims' families.

Purchased and successfully quit within one month.I bought the book and left it on the coffee table for a week or two. Picked it up after I returned from a vacation. Read most (3/4), but to be honest, I never finished the book. I didn't need to. I smoked my last cigarette on July 14, 2015 and I have not looked back. I smoked for over 20 years and now I have been free for over six months.I started smoking when I was in high school, 15 or 16. Was a confirmed, moderate to heavy smoker from that point forward (1/2 pack to pack+ a day). I quit once for about a year in 2005-6, cold turkey. I hated it, was miserable, cried a lot and missed smoking all the time. Felt as though I was denying myself the joy and pleasure of smoking. The last six-plus months have been completely different. I do not miss smoking. I feel relieved of a burden. I am confident I will never smoke again and I am so grateful for that. I wanted to quit. I was ready, but I was intimidated and worried I would again miss it forever, so I just put it off over and over again. Then I remembered someone mentioning this book and I figured for less than $15 and with the volume of positive reviews, it was worth a shot.I think wanting to quit/being ready is an important piece of why this book worked for me. I was open to the power of suggestion and it helped me shift my perspective on quitting from one of fear and missing out, to one of joy and gratitude. My husband is still a smoker and I can't even get him to turn a few pages, so I know it's a personal decision and one that only the smoker can make... but if YOU are looking for a path to become a non-smoker, I suggest you give this book a try. Good luck!

I was a smoker for 45 years. I am coming up on 2 years now of being a Non-smoker. I have never craved a cigarette since. Thank you for this book. I just wanted everyone to know this book works. It feels great not having to build your life around where you can smoke at. I am free.

Stop. Read this. This book worked for me and my mother. I, a 30 year smoker and her, a 40 year smoker were both able to quit easily, with no anger issues, no craving, and found the experience enjoyable. The hardest part of this was just reading the book. Once I started reading, I didn't stop until I had my last cigarette that same day!Buy this book; quit smoking. Simple. Don't be afraid, just buy it.Edit: as of this review January 11, 2018 I am two months nicotine free.Allen Carr should be sainted.

I read this book in 3 hours. Next day I was still smoking. I was disappointed. Then less than a week later it's like the words soaked in. I quit smoking April 8th. Cold turkey. About a month later my dad ended up in icu on a vent. That's the most stressed I've ever been. I didnt even think about smoking. My dad was a smoker before that, he quit when he got out of hospital, and is already smoking again. There is something about this book. It gives you truth about cigarettes. And it reaches your subconscious without you actually trying. Some ppl have asked me if it's hypnosis. No. It's just the truth. Sometimes I dream i smoked and even in my dream I am so devastated that I will have to start over again. When I wake up I'm relieved. I thought i loved smoking. I didnt. I don't think about them now. I don't crave them. I can sit in a room with smokers and not even think about it(actually happened at my mom's). I bought 2 more copies of the book and currently lent them out. More ppl should know about this book

I am 47 years old and started smoking when I was 14. I have been a non smoker for 2 1/2 months now. Woohoo! This book and prayer really does work. You just have to keep reading and keep praying until the end. As I was reading it, I kept thinking to myself 'there is no way this is going to work' but it really did. I actually even quit before I got to the end of the book but I still finished reading it. If you are truly serious about quitting this is the way to go. It is really easy and didn't bother me a bit. It did take my brain some time to catch up with the fact that I didn't smoke any more. For instance, on my way home from work, I'd reach for my purse to see if I needed to stop and get cigarettes (Oh Wait! I don't smoke anymore, silly girl ...LOL) Or I'd reach for a cigarette to light when I reached a certain road I was traveling on (Again! Hey I don't smoke!) The only other down fall is that I did gain 10lbs. I really watched that my eating didn't change and it didn't but I still put on the 10lbs. The Nicotine, I believe does really affect your metabolism. So now I'm working on getting the 10lbs off. I believe in you, you can do it! Read the book and become a healthier and better smelling you! :) YES, I said better smelling you because cigarettes really do make you stink. You don't realize until you quit and smell it on others. God Bless and Good Luck Thank you Allen Carr

Before you try anything else, try reading this book. I read through it, smoking the whole time. After I finished reading, I stopped smoking-and I've stayed smoke free ever since-t's been three years. I had a forty year habit. No withdrawal symptoms. No weight gain. Give this a chance. Please.

A while back I was thinking, 'is Celine still writing and are there going to be any more adventures with Rory, Longinus and the gang?' It had been a while since book two had come out, so you can see why I was wondering. By happy chance I was flicking through the up coming releases in Fantasy and Science Fiction and lo and behold there was a third book coming out at the end of January. I authomatically pressed the pre-pay button and waited for it to appear on my kindle on its release date. Once I had it in my hot little hand (and yes my hands are really little), I got stuck into Slave City. It may have been a while since book 2's release, but Slave City was worth the wait. Rory is in top form as the impish urchin who says what's on her mind - she's not reknowed for her diplomatic tongue. Longinus is the smooth-talking Viper, an assassin with a fear of blood whose snappily dressed self glides through the pages of this latest adventure....well, mostly that is when he's not puking over the edge of Adelma's ship. This time our heroes have been tasked by Lady Martha to retrieve a Damisian machinist from the clutches of the Ayzir and help support the Ayzirian rebellion. With Celine's usual snappy dialogue, our larger than life characters fill the pages of Slave City as they lurch through some tense moments in order to accomplish their task. An all round great read and I'm looking forward to the next adventure set in the Viper and Urchin universe :)

Imagine having your station in life decided by a stud in your eyebrow. Ugh. Imagine living in a city separated into three tiers, each separated by high walls, each reachable only by a single set of stairs climbing ever higher with those on the bottom with little water and less hope, with those in the middle only sightly better, and then an elite at the top controlling the water supply for all. Toss in a not-so-secret revolution, a Romanesque circus, a mad ruler, an evil behind-the-scenes manipulator, and our heroes -- Rory, Longinus, Adelna, Cruikshank, and Rafe -- and get set for daring and scary adventures.

The authors detail and writing skill are amazing. This was a very enjoyable read as were her other books in this series. Pick up a copy, you wont be disappointed.

When I began reviewing this series, I looked at the characters in terms of three sliding scales: competence, proactivity, and sympathy. At first Longinus—the elegant, mysterious assassin—seems to be supremely competent, proactively controlling his life and choices, if (as a poisoner) he’s somewhat unsympathetic. While Rory, the street urchin, is at the mercy of a pitiless world, an orphan whose dire circumstances should demand our sympathy.Only…Longinus has a showstopper flaw for an assassin: he faints at the sight of blood. Not only does that punch holes in his competence and proactivity, but it immediately sends our sympathy levels soaring. Rory, on the other hand, is just so darn competent at being an urchin. Taking proactive control of her own destiny—even if “blackmail the assassin into making her his apprentice” might not seem the ideal strategy—she simply gets on with accomplishing her goal of becoming a master swordswoman. The newest release in the series, The Slave City, is set a fantastically well-imagined world of sword and steam-powered sorcery, with both Longinus and Rory starting again at half-mast for all three sliders. Under the firm control of the Marchioness and her daughter, they aren’t able to act proactively, nor can they follow their profession (freelance assassins). Both are questioning their own physical competence as well—Longinus because he’s epically seasick as they sail to Azir, and Rory because her life goal of becoming a master swordswoman is facing defeat due to her slight build. But both have also been defined in a significant way by the enemy they faced in earlier books. With no immediate enemy in sight, Rory and Longinus are each looking for their purpose and goals. The problem faced by authors of any series is that if you vanquish the enemy in each book, how do you move the series forward? There are two main ways to accomplish this, and author Celine Jeanjean does both. First, you could have the villain (in this case, Longinus’ evil sister Myran) vanquished but not dead yet, spinning off like Darth Vader in his escape shuttle to recuperate and plot again. Second, you could have your heroes take on an even bigger evil—in this case, slavery.Their group has been drafted to mount a rescue mission to the slaver-nation of Azir in hopes of retrieving their countryman—a Damsian machinist rumored to be working on an invention to enable his slaver captors to greatly expand their human trafficking. Stunned to find themselves honestly employed by The Old Girl (Marchioness of the city-state of Damsport), Rory and Longinus are now part of the classic adventure-trope, the five-man-band. If you look at another trope-defining example, Star Wars, their comparable roles are the following: 1. The Leader (Luke Skywalker): Rory, the skinny former urchin and now Logninus’ apprentice assassin is part of the team sent to the slaver stronghold Azyr to rescue a fellow Damsian. 2. The Lancer (Han Solo): Cruikshank, the genius machinist, is Rory’s direct opposite—tall, muscular, older, a thoughtful and meticulous planner who is nominally in charge of the mission. 3. The Big Guy (Chewbacca): Adelma, the hard-drinking captain of a smuggler ship is a massively powerful rage-machine tempered by three loves: drinking, her baby son, and her smuggling ship. 4. The Smart Guy (R2-D2 and C-3PO): Longinus, the elegant clotheshorse, is actually the assassin known as the Viper. His weakness at the sight of blood means he’s devoted his considerable and deadly intelligence to becoming a master poisoner. 5. The Chick (Princess Leia): Rafe, the aristocrat and master soldier, informs a frankly skeptical Rory that he’s her “love interest” and thus appoints himself her sidekick. As the five members of their little band attempt their rescue mission, they are forced first to confront, then to experience, and ultimately to aid the uneasy coalition attempting revolution against the evils of the slavers. By defining their real opponent—the institution of slavery—as the ultimate evil, any actions the team takes against slavers are by that definition morally imperative, and a signal to let the body count begin.Of course, that all adds up to a darker story than previous volumes. But the humor and banter between the members of the team keep things entertaining. Luckily for the five-person team, their enemies hadn’t read the Evil Overlord List. (“Shooting is not too good for my enemies." —Evil Overlord List, (c) 1996-1997 by Peter Anspach) Thus in their evil headquarters prisoners were kept together, potential hostages thoughtfully stashed nearby, useful dark corners abound to lurk in, and there are plenty of opportunities for strategic things they could blow up—all while Rafe banters about being the love interest, Rory searches for a new signature weapon, and clothes-horse Longinus sticks out “…like a whore in a convent, with his teal silk shirt, burnt-orange trousers, and hat with an elaborate teal-and-orange feather arrangement.”As always, even as the individual characters’ sliders move, the entertainment of the adventure created in this series stays at the very top of the scale. Although I'd suggest you read the earlier volumes first, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to readers looking for a fantasy quest with complex characters, a fantastically imagined world, a quirky team, and plenty of humor.*I received this book for free from the publisher or author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.*
