At a time when Europe saw China as a land to be exploited an older seasoned ambassador's wife saw a rich value in every ritual, every life, and around every corner. She sought to know others by understanding their culture. She survived the boxer rebellion seige and formed a respectful friendship across ritual, language and cultural barriers. Well studied and textbook written.

I'm sure this book is full of information, but I just couldn't read it. Did not hold my interest. If you are interested in China's history maybe you would find it interesting. It was a book club selection.

I found the actual content of the book both interesting and entertaining. I'm not an aficionado though,so I can't speak to how well-known the chosen infographics might be to someone with more than a passinginterest in the subject.I was however more than a little annoyed at the poor print setting. The binding of the book prevents it frombeing opened wide enough to fully see the infographics that cross the center line. This meant that it wasdifficult to impossible to read text that happened to cross over the center (is it called the gutter?).I'd say this affected about 30% of the infographics and was annoying enough that I found myself wonderinghow this kind of oversight could happen.Sadly, I bought the physical version because the reviews on the kindle version say that the images are toosmall to enjoy, so I can't even suggest that alternative.When are publishers going to solve the problem of formatting image-heavy books for tablets and e-ink devices?

I love this book and would rate it higher if only I could see the graphics without a magnifying glass. A larger book (physical size) would have made this book incredible.

This lovely book was on the front porch as I returned home last night. It was 3 hours before I put it down.There are some very well done data visualizations here. One in particular on a better food label was great on showing how to look at the information from a completely different perspective. And covers a broader range of data in a more succinct space. Loved it.While at times the content of some specific data visualizations wasn't relevant to me, it didn't matter. The author did a great job of choosing such a diverse group of infographics to show. I was always drawn in to learn something about how I can better present things in my projects as a designer.His choice for the star of the book was spectacular and informative. This book will be one that remains within reach when I struggling and need a jumping off point to decide how I will present data. Let's hope our future looks much more like this book and much less like an excel bar chart.

I liked this book very much as I am a visual person and anytime I can look at a picture instead of reading a text I will jump at the opportunity. I give the book four stars for the overall beauty of the designs and also for the very informative Forward by Gareth Cook and Introduction by David Byrne. Please read both the Forward and Introduction as they are very illuminating.The designs range from the powerfully simple (Gun Ownership Rates by Country – pp. 86-89) to the very complex (Political Moneyball – pp. 144-145) and are divided into three sections: You, Us, and The Material World. There is also a separate section for the Top 10 Interactive Graphics (selected by Eric Rodenbeck).I reserve giving the fifth star because some of the infographics are reduced to such a small size as to be virtually unreadable. Even accounting for the massive size of Influence: A Brief History (pp. 54-59) by extending it into a fold-out page, the size of the type remains extremely small. As a graphic, it’s beautiful; as information, it’s useless.I also reduced my rating to four stars because the interactive section never defines that term although Mr.Rodenbeck hints at a definition by referring to the ability to “pan and zoom.” What makes a graphic interactive? I take it to mean that these infographics must be viewed online in order to appreciate the way the variables interact with each other over time (pan and zoom?), but again, that is just my guess. Being what it is, a static medium with a limited physical dimension, the book freezes the motion of the graphics and sometimes shrinks them to near illegibility (no zooming). To the book’s credit, a link is provided to the publisher’s website where these graphics may be seen in their interactive form.For the rest of the “non-interactive” graphics that constitute the majority, while there are no direct links to them on the publisher’s website, each infographic includes its online reference. The few references I took the trouble to look up were still accessible even late in 2013. By the way, many of these online sources are “interactive.”

Infographics are a good way to convey complex information in a way that is memorable. Although I love graphs and other visuals, I do believe that Infographics are an important step in breaking through the clutter of digital and non-digital communication.While the infographics in this book are sometimes shown in a reduced size (making the print/pictures tiny) as others have said, I believe that you can still get the inspiration needed to communicate in a new way. I can still recall that the Shar-Pei is more closely related to the wolf than is the German Shepherd. These are among the most detailed infographics I have seen---so the style may be more for the data hounds among us (no pun intended).If you are looking for a book to show you how to take complex informaiton and show it in "3 steps" (another important type of infographic), this is not the book that will serve that purpose, in my opinion. That said, I am glad I have this at hand to serve as inspiration.

Love this book!I like the graphical representations!As a researcher, I always tried to convey my research more effectively.This book inspires me to think of creative and effective ways to convey information.Some graphs are small and way too complicated but they are still useful.I have not emulated any graphs yet but I look forward to doing so soon :D

Minus a star for size of book. Its not a coffee table book, its a lap book. Pics are nice, good explanation - but some pics are split into 2 pages instead of one because of size - 9 x 9" - 240 pages.

Really nice picture book from Tim Peake’s ISS Mission.

It's a good book to know what's the earth view from sky, but the country area coverage is a fewer than expected.

Love space? You'll love this book of, mainly, photos. It's a great coffee table book but also very educational to see the world in such detail.

I bought this book for my son, who is an Aerospace Engineering graduate and a big Tim Peake fan. I have the hard cover copy of the book and the printing on the cover is excellent and vibrant. The book measures 23,5cm x 23.5cm x 2cm.This is astronaut Tim Peake's first book. The book is full of beautiful photographs in full colour and the introduction 4 pages long. From the ISS he can see over 1000 km in any direction and his explanation of passing over the French Alps he could see a view stretching from Greece to the UK with just a turn of the head makes you realise just how amazing his journey must have been. He references the camera (Nikon D4) that he used and goes into detail about that.The back of the book has an entire page with reference to each location of the photograph. This book is ideal for anyone who loves space and especially great to show children and use this book in schools.The ISS is packed with cutting edge technology including wi-fi and the internet connection to Earth via a satellite (it was very slow).The book outlines his mission with a sketch covering two pages in the book, from 15 December 2015 (launch day) right through to the 18th June 2016 when he eventually gets back home.The photographs are breathtaking and the text for each page is roughly 4 lines with many pages referencing many interesting facts about the locations. For example, Emi Koussi volcano which is at the top of one of the pictures, the highest mountain in the Sahara, and the 345 million year old Aorounga impact crater in Chad (bottom of the picture). There is a short description of the picture/photograph and then a small picture showing the location on a map.I am so happy I bought it and hope my son is going to love it too.I have added photographs.

All the photos have captions. The captions, amongst other things, give directions on what landmarks to look for.As you can imagine, all the photos are unique and gorgeous. Surprisingly we’re not told at what altitude they were taken from but I discovered that the ISS orbits our planet at an average altitude of about 240 miles or 400 km.These photos give an unforgettable new perspective of our oceans, mountains, forests, and deserts. As well, we get to see aerial views of the world’s cities and the breathtaking beauty of the aurora.Finally, the only problem I had is that I could not see all the things that we were directed to see in the captions. This was because some of the location directions were too general. There is one photo where the structures were actually circled. Doing this was quite helpful. Later in the book, Peake suggests using a magnifying glass. I did this and it was extremely helpful. Unfortunately, it was suggested to do this late in the book.In conclusion, this is a remarkable book that gives us a view of the Earth from over 200 miles above it. I found the amount of research that went into writing the book to be excellent. I found the section on fundraising planning of great value. Most other books I have read on fundraising jump straight into fundraising methods. I also liked the fact that the authors highlighted fundraising as a profession. The book is worhty of its title. Before you get to the practice of fundraising you need to understand the principles behind it all. This book does just that. If you have to raise funds for your organisation, this book needs to be on your bookshelf.

At last, I have found the book for which I have been searching! It is the ideal gift for a friend who mentioned that she has been looking for such a book. It covers every area needed to construct a will. Further, it is written in language that is clear and understandable without a lot of legal terminology and legal jargon. I would recommend this book to anybody who needs help with writing a will.

I bought this book thinking I would have forms to complete a Will. All the forms have Draft printed on them which I cannot use. I am very disappointed that I now have to order forms because I do not have a printer. I am 61 years old and don't know why they have forms with Draft printed on them. Can I use them???? Who knows.

Got some ideas on how to do a will on my own. Do not have a complicated situation here so was able to do this.

So many of these self-help books are poorly written and hard to get through. When you throw in the legal aspect, it can be really hard to understand. This book is the exception. It is easy to follow, with clear step-by-step explanations and definitions. Samples of the forms are included in the book along with links to use blank forms for your own use. This is the first NOLO book I've purchased but it won't be the last.

We're Still reading it..... but one thing. The author says If you are from Louisiana, don't buy this book. For some reason the civil courts there require you to hire an attorney.

I had read the book before, which came with a CD so that I could print forms that I needed. The copy I got did not have a CD, requiring me to go online to get the forms I want. I'm not too happy about that difference.

Extremely helpful. Easy to follow. Documents available on line can be used multiple times.

When I first read the title of Rahul Badami's "I Am God: World's Oldest Story," I assumed the novel was about a Jesus character claiming to be the incarnation of a monotheistic "God." I'm glad to say it isn't.The story is set in Africa 150,000 years ago among humans as intelligent and compassionate as those of us alive today. As a writer of prehistoric fiction myself, I was pleased to see that.At 29, Ayot is an elder in his tribe. Upon the death of the present chief--who, like his predecessors, is called "God"--the tribe learns that he picked Ayot to succeed him. Ayot appears to be an unlikely choice since he often differed with the old God. He also doesn't think he's worthy enough to be the new God.In any event, before he can exercise the authority given to him, he must complete, within a 30-day moon cycle, three Tasks of God. A rival elder suggests that one of the tasks should be the Vision of God, which by itself would be difficult if not impossible to complete within the period allowed. Ayot nevertheless accepts the challenge, and the page-turning begins.Up to this point, Badami hasn't depicted the tribe's God as possessing supernatural powers. I wondered, though, whether that would change. I won't give the answer to the question here because it would be a spoiler. The nature of a God's power--and Ayot's quest to discover it--is what this delightful story is all about.Badami rightly describes his novel as "the prehistoric action adventures of Ayot." It is also deeply thoughtful. I highly recommend "I Am God" to readers such as myself who like their fiction with traditional plots, sympathetic protagonists, and narratives questioning what it means to be a human in our world.I believe "I Am God" well deserves the five stars I'm giving it despite the inclusion of what might seem to other readers and writers of American English to be an unacceptable number of grammatical errors. For examples, Badami often employs "used to," the past perfect tense of verbs, and exclamation points where I wouldn't.They startled me at first. On the other hand, they didn't cause confusion or require perusing passages more than once to understand what the author was saying. I soon found myself reading the text as I would a dialect I didn't often encounter. I would encourage other readers as picky as I am to read "I Am God" in that manner. If they do, they won't forgo a beautiful story.

I wasn't sure about the title at first so I downloaded the free sample. Doesn't take long to become engrossed in the story. Enjoyable, fun read. Would definitely recommend for any age really.

The author uses a story line the has many twists and turn to help you to understand just how powerful you are. Inside of each of us is potential, and it's what we do with that potential that makes a difference...

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The ending was a bit deus ex... But not so much so that it annoyed me, just that I noticed it. Give this a read, it's worth it.
